2 Days Pamukkale Antalya Tour

Pamukkale, known as the “cotton castle,” originate its name from the magnificent white pools filled with hot water. These pools are formed by the deposition of calcium from the underground rivers’ mineral-rich hot waters. As the water meets the air, the calcium settles and takes the shape of petrified waterfalls, creating basins filled with hot spring waters. Throughout history, Pamukkale served as a famed  healing center, leading to the development of the neighboring city of Hierapolis. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Pamukkale holds great significance.

Hierapolis, a Greco-Roman city situated alongside the healing waters of Pamukkale, originated as a Phrygian Cult Center dedicated to Cybele. Since the 2nd century BC, Hierapolis has been famous for its healing properties, making it home to the largest commercial necropolis in the region, as patrons seeking healing often passed away there. The city also thrived as a trade center, particularly known for its textile and cloth trade. Hierapolis boasted a diverse community, including Jewish and Christian populations. The city’s significance to early Christians is evident through the presence of the tomb of Philip the Apostle and the Martyrdom of St. Philip. Today, visitors can witness the remains of this remarkable city alongside the white pools of Pamukkale, with the original healing center now referred to as the Antique Pool or Cleopatra’s Pool. It is still possible to swim in the hot healing waters when visiting the Antique Pool.

Antalya, the largest international sea resort in Turkey, stands as the country’s third most visited city. Founded by the Greeks around 150 BC, the city was named after Attalos II, the King of Pergamon. During the Byzantine Empire, Antalya held significant importance as one of the major cities. Within the old city of Antalya, known as Kaleici, visitors can explore narrow streets lined with Ottoman-era houses. The city abounds with historic sights, including Hadrian’s Gate, the Clock Tower, the Ancient Harbor, the Fluted Minaret, the City Walls, and the mesmerizing Duden Waterfall.
