5 Days Mesopotamia and Gobeklitepe Tour

Mesopotamia, situated in the fertile land between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, has been a cradle of great civilizations throughout history. The Sumerians and Akkadians were dominant powers in the region, leaving behind impressive ancient cities.

Mardin, one of the significant cities of Mesopotamia, boasts a rich tapestry of religions, cultures, and civilizations that have flourished here. From the Sumerians to the Babylonians, from the Persians to the Greeks and Romans, and from the Sabians to Jews, Christians, and Muslims, Mardin has been a melting pot of diverse influences. With its limestone streets, stone houses, and captivating architecture, Mardin is a captivating destination that should not be missed on your Mesopotamia tour. Key attractions in Mardin include the Mardin Grand Mosque, Kasimiye Madrasah, Deyrulzafaran Monastery, Dara Antique City, Nusaybin, and Midyat.

Gobeklitepe, located in Sanliurfa, dates back to the Pre-Pottery Neolithic period, making it over 12,000 years old. This ancient temple and sanctuary features monumental structures believed to have served as communal buildings for social events and rituals. Notably, towering T-shaped limestone pillars, standing at about 5.5 meters tall, are adorned with totems, animal figurines, and enigmatic symbols. Gobeklitepe, still undergoing excavation, holds the distinction of being the oldest temple in the world, surpassing the pyramids of Egypt and Stonehenge in Britain. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it is regarded as the first known temple in human history, representing a profound milestone, often referred to as the “Zero Point in Time.”
